Tragedy struck in August 1869 when John J.'s father, Peter at age 46, was struck and killed by a streetcar in Boston.
The entry is on the left-hand page near the top (entry # 5).
A look at the 1870 census shows Peter absent and his son Thomas (23) and his wife, Catherine (23), and their children James (3) and Mary (1) living in the same building as Peter's wife, Mary (47) and their children Elizabeth (18) and John J. (12).
